Mr Shaw of Wiscasset moved the following Order, viz. Ordered That _________ be Commissioners on the part of this House with such as the Senate may join to repair as soon as convenient to the State Prison in Thomaston & examine all the Accounts of the Prison for the last year, together with all the Books Contracts and Accounts of the Warden - also to ascertain as near as may be all the stock, materials & tools, provision on hand the first day of September last, also on the 31st of December last & their value - also to examine the expenditures and income of the Prison the past year & to report their doings to this Legislature. Ordered further, that it shall be the duty of said Commissioners, in their report to this Legislature, as far as may be, to exhibit an accurate account of the profit or loss of each branch of business & of each department, & of all the affairs of the Prison, together with the amount that has been drawn from the Treasury the past and current years, for all expenditures -Also the safety and situation of the New Cells, the amount of labor of convicts thereon - how built, whether by contract or otherwise, with an estimate from their present situation, of what ought to be a just & reasonable compensation for building them, as well as their actual cost. And said Commissioners, shall be authorized to employ some suitable mechanic or mechanics & other persons, to examine said new cells, & other additions and appurtenances of the Prison, and also the stock now on hand and the value thereof & to take such evidence & statements under oath as they may deem necessary to submit to this Legislature. Ordered further, that it shall be the duty of all officers connected with the Prison, during any part of the term aforesaid, on notice from said Commissioners, to exhibit all books, accounts, contracts, conveyances, memoranda & all facts &
