To the Senate and House of Representatives.

The resignation of Major General Stephen Berry of the sixth Division, having been received and accepted, I now make known to the two branches of the Legislature, that the office of Major General of the sixth Division of the Militia of this State, is vacant.

To the Senate and House of Representatives.

The Secretary of State will lay before the two branches of the Legislature, the report of the Adjutant General, with the annual returns of the Militia of the State; so far as the same have been received, and a statement of the expenditures for the support of the Militia during the last ten years. The suggestions contained in this report in relation to the present condition of the Militia and proposing an alteration in the organization of the establishment, are believed by many to be deserving of consideration.
