128 [Bills & Resolve passed to be engrossed] paid by certain officers. Bill to incorporate the Portland Rifle Cadets and Resolve additional in favor of Joel Wellington and Samuel Whitney were severally read a 2nd time and passed to be engrossed. Sent down for concurrence.

[Resolve passed Mattanawcook] Resolve additional for opening and clearing a road from the south line of township No. 2 old Indian purchase to Mattanawcook stream came up amended for concurrence and the Senate concurred.

[Order respecting clerks of the Judicial Courts] On motion by Mr. French, Ordered, that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of making provision to authorize the Legislature or the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court or Court of Common Pleas to elect or appoint a Clerk of the Judicial Courts for any of the Counties of this State whenever the Governor and Council shall have neglected to appoint a Clerk as aforesaid for the same on or before the office shall become vacant by virtue of the Statute limiting the tenure of civil officers with leave to report by Bill or otherwise, Sent down for concurrence.

[Resolve passed to be engrossed] Mr. Parsons from the Committee reported Resolve for the relief of Charles Hogan, Benjamin Jones and John Foster and the same was read a second time and passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the House.

[Bill to incorporate Brunswick Cotton Factory] Mr. Holbrook from the Com on Manufactures on the petition of John O'Brien & others reported Bill to incorporate the Brunswick Falls Cotton Factory. Read once & tomw. 10 assd. for a 2nd read.

[Bills passed to be enacted] Mr. Page from the Committee on Engrossed Bills reported the following to be truly copied, viz Bill to incorporate the Proprietors of the Falls Sluiceway Bill to prevent the destruction of Pickerel in Damariscotta Pond and Bill to cede to the United States a site for a Pier in Saco River and the same were passed to be enacted.
