In the returns from the several towns of Atkinson, Cherryfield, Hartland, Islesboro and Readfield, it is slated that the votes were received, sorted, counted and declared, "in the presence of the Town Clerk, who formed a list of the persons voted for, and made a record thereof," and the return is attested by a person as "Town Clerk, pro tem." - The votes were counted. By the return from Howland, it appears that votes were received in that town from inhabitants of the unincorporated place, No 1, old Indian Purchase; - by the return from Lincoln that votes were received, in that town, from inhabitants of three unincorporated places, adjourning said town on the east, south and west; - by the returns from Kilmarnock, that votes were received in that town, from inhabitants of the unincorporated place, called No 2; - by the returns from Houlton, that votes were received in that town, from inhabitants of the Plantation of Foxcroft, Linneus, Wellington, and No. 10 unincorporated places; - by the returns from Franklin, that votes were received, in that town, by inhabitants of an, unincorporated place, called No 15; - and by the return from Mount Desert, that a vote was received, in that town, from an inhabitant of an unincorporated place, called Long Island; - all which votes from said incorporated places were counted.
