The Committee on engrossed Bills reported as duly engrossed Bill defining the duties & powers of Justices of the Peace respecting actions of Replevin - - ceding to the United States the jurisdiction of Mount Desert Rock - - additional to an act to establish a Court of Common Pleas - which were severally passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.

The same committee reported as duly engrossed Resolve providing for the printing & distribution of Blank returns of votes - of favor of Day & Fraser - - respecting the Tariff - - for the purchase of stationary [stationery] & other articles - which were severally finally passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill - additional to an act ascertaining what shall constitute the legal settlement & providing for the relief & support, employment and removal of the poor, came down passage refused - The House adhere to their vote passing the same, propose a conference & appoint as Conferees, Messrs Ruggles of Thomaston, Pond of Bucksport & White of Monmouth.

Resolve for the payment of Accounts against the State, was read twice & passed to be engrossed with amendments. Sent up for concurrence.
