�I took his commissions as Brigadier General from Secty Stanton to him together with a (written above the line ) copy of a resolve passed by the Senate, confirming his appoint-ment "for meritorious & gallant service while leading his brigade in a charge made on the enemies works near Petersburg Virginia June 18th 1864."
