Monday January 17th. 1831 Met according to adjournment On motion of Mr. Delesdernier of Calais Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of making valid the doings of Joseph Houlton Esq as Register of Deeds for the Northern District in Washington County & of defining by law the limits of said District - also of authorizing the Inhabitants of said District to choose a Register of Deeds in the same manner & at the same time as other Registers in this State - sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Clifford of Newfield Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of repealing or modifying an act to restrain the taking of excessive usury - so that usurious contracts shall not be wholly void but voidable in part only - sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Deane of Ellsworth Ordered that the Senate be requested to take from their files & send to this House the Petition of the town Goldsboro' for an abatement of their State Tax - sent up

Report of the Commissioner of Public Buildings was read & referred to a select Committee consisting of Messrs. White of Monmouth, Deane of Ellsworth and Bradbury of Hollis with such as the Senate may join sent up for concurrence.

The House receded from their vote of the 10th instant referring the Petition of the Assessors of Cumberland to the Committee on Finance & referred the same to the Committee on State Valuation - sent up for concurrence
