218 Wednesday February 22 1832 Met according to adjournment

The House was called to order by Clerk, who informed the house that Benjamin White Esq Speaker, was prevented by indisposition from attending to his duty in this House.

The House then proceeded to the choice of a Speaker protempon and Messrs Smith of Westbrook, Lermond of Union, Francis of Leeds, Robinson of Bethel and Parsons of Sebec, were appointed a Committee, to receive sort and court the votes for a Speaker protempon, who having attended to the duty as signed then reported that the whole number of votes given, was one hundred and thirty three necessary to a choice sixty seven, Nathan Clifford had ninety four and was declared elected, and being present took the chair.

On motion of Mr Steele Ordered that a Message be sent to the Senate informing there that the House have made a choice of Nathan Clifford as Speaker pro tem and the Clerk communicated the same

A message was received from the Senate informing the House that on account of the indisposition

On motion of Mr Miller Ordered, that the Committee on State Roads be instructed to enquire into the expediency of extending the same protection to the Military read leading from Lincoln to Hancock Barracks, as the Bill reported by said Committee, gives to the Mattanawcook Road and report by Bill or otherwise sent up for concurrence Petition
