Carmel July 31st 1862

Governor Washburn

Sir

The Bearer Edwin R. Blodgett is a member of the Bangor L. Infantry 2nd Me Regm't. He came home after the York Town siege sick with rheumatic fever and is now on his way to his Regiment. I regret that it was not in your power to have done something for him by way of a commission but no one is to blame except those [Gamblers?] for military spoils. Any favor that you may see fit to confer upon him will be gratefully remembered by him and his friends.

Yours Respectfully

Geo. Chamberlin
