[Petitions refered.] The petition of the Inhabitants of Goldsborough [Gouldsborough], and the report thereon, was read and referred to the Joint Standing Committee on the State valuation, in concurrence.

The petition of Thomas A. Hill and others, for abolishing imprisonment for Debt, was read and referred to the Joint select committee who have under consideration so much of the Governors message, as relates to that subject.

The petition of the Trustees of the Wesleyan Seminary for pecuniary aid, was read and referred to the Joint standing committee on Literary Institutions. Sent down for concurrence. concurred.

The petition of Elkinah McLellan, to be indemnified for expenses incurred in arresting two persons supposed to be guilty of felony, was read and referred to the Joint standing committee on claims. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred

[Order from the House.] Order from the House of Representatives, instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to enquire into the expediency of providing by law for the reimbursement of legal expenses incurred by Defendants in criminal prosecutions when said Defendants shall not be convicted, read and passed in concurrence.

[Order.] Ordered, that the Treasurer of State be directed to lay before the Legislature, the papers and information in his possession, relating to such wild lands in this State as are owned by residents and nonresidents, and as are without the limits of incorporated Towns and organized plantations. -
