On motion of Mr. Hodgman, the Senate Chamber was cleared of spectators and the Senate went into secret session. The Senate resumed the consideration of the Resolves respecting the Territory lying north and east of the River St. John and St Francis. Mr. Boutelle moved to amend by inserting the following words at the end of the first Resolve "Provided however that the Commissioners appointed under this Resolve shall make an indemnity to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for her interest in the Territory above described if she shall before any meeting of said Commissioners agree to abide by and accept such indemnity"
