19 In Convention. Agreeably to assignment the two Branches of the Legislature met in convention for the purpose of electing seven Councillors, and a Secretary of State. Messrs. Davee, Hamlin, and Bradbury of the Senate and Messrs. Smith of Westbrook, Webster, Washburn, Chase and Phelps of the House were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for Councillors. Messrs. Cobb and Warren of the Senate and Messrs. Lord, Crosby and Small of the House were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for a Secretary of State, who having attended to the duty assigned them, reported that the whole number of votes given in was 194. Greene duly elected Secretary of State.
