I hearby Certify [all in bold], That Charles Porter of Lincolnville Maine, a Private [of Captain Company of is crossed out] in the Detachment commanded by [ma???en Isaac Sh???? is crossed out] by James [handwritten in] Dunning) of the drafted Militia of Maine, was born in Camden in the State of Maine is aged 20 years, 5 feet and 8 inches high, light complexion, dark eyes, brown hair, and by profession, when called into actual services by the State of Maine for the protection of its Northeastern Frontier, a Blacksmith [handwritten]. He was called into actual service by the order of the Governor of Maine, and rendezvoused at Bangor Maine, on the eleventh day of March A.D. 1839, being drafted from Captain Isaac Matthews Company of Infantry in the first Regiment, Second Brigade, and Third Division of the Militia of Maine, and then residing at Lincolnville in said State; and having faithfully and honestly served the period required, is now entitled to an honorable discharge.

   The above named Charles Porter has monthly pay due him from the eleventh day of March 1839, when last paid by [empty space]    to include this day; and he is also entitled to pay and subsistence for travel from his residence to the place of rendezvous, and from the place of discharge to his home, being [empty space] miles, and whatever other allowances are authorized by law, to soldiers so discharged.  He is also entitled to pay for clothing during the period of his service: or he has drawn the following articles of clothing, to wit: [big blank space]
