68 In [ ] near Falmouth Va. 2nd Maine Regt. Feb. 14, 1863 Gen. [ ] Dear Sir Wishing to reach the ear of the governor upon a single [ ] I take the liberty to address you. I hear that Doct. Palmer one of my assistants has been ap pointed Surgeon of 9th Maine and has gone South. Dr. Main now here and a most ex- cellent man in every respect. I think exc[ ] feeble and will try soon go home on leave of absence and it is doubtful whether he will be able to perform much of the duty should he return at all I am to be left for a time at least entirely alone with the regiment. This won't be very well which in [ ] that for the fact that I am acting Brigade Surgeon. the duties of which are now much more arduous, than those for[er? al?] required of Brigade Sur- geons for in addition to receiving con- solidating and procuring all the Reports of six regiments to [besides ] [ ] own I must procure and distribute all the medicine and Hospital [ ] needed.
