Mr Farnsworth from the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges and Canals, reported order of notice on petition of David L. Hobbs and others, which report was read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.
On motion of Mr Cogswell, ordered, that the Secretary of State be requested to lay before the two Houses of the Legislature, the abstracts of the returns made to his office in June last of the several incorporated Banks in this State. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.
On motion of Mr. Manning, ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to enquire into the expediency of repealing all existing laws relating to imprisonment for debt. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.
On motion of Mr Groton, ordered, that two members of this board be added to the Committee to whom is referred, on the part of the Senate, the order relative to the subject of Internal Improvements, embraced in the message of the Governor.
On motion of Mr Tobin, ordered, that the Joint Select Committee, on so much of the Governors message as relates to Literature and Literary Institutions be directed to enquire into the expediency of passing a law, requiring that a school Committee be appointed in each County, for the purpose of enquiring into the Literary qualifications of, and granting certificates of such qualifications, to all persons proposing themselves as teachers of youth in primary school in this State.
