A message was received from the House of Representatives, informing the Senate that the House had reconsidered their vote referring the "Bill prescribing the mode of making and repairing highways" to the Committee on the Judiciary and refer the same to a Joint Special Committee, consisting on the part of the House of Messrs. Allen of Lubec, Hunt of Unity, Wyman of Stetson, Dolbier of Kingfield, Parris of Buckfield, Hardy of Deer Isle, Rust of New Sharon, Shaw of Wiscassett, Kimball of Portland and Hubbard of North Berwick, with such as the Senate may join, and requesting the concurrence of the Senate. The Senate reconsider their former vote and concur the House in said reference, and Messrs Knowlton Tobin, Howard, Kelsey and Porter are joined.
The Senate reconsider their vote accepting the Report of the Committee appointed to employ a Draftsman, as amended, and recommit the same, and the Secretary was directed to communicate the same by message, and request the concurrence of the House.
Mr Pierce of the Committee on Literature and Literary Institutions, to whom was referred the subject of a Superintendant [Superintendent] of Public Schools, made a report asking to be discharged from the further consideration of said subject, and that the same be referred to the Committee to whom was referred so much of the Governor's message as relates to primary schools and an Institution for Teachers.
