General Orders, Headquarters, Boston, Aug. 22. 1797

By the Act of Congress, herewith published, 11886 men, including officers, are required to be detached from the Militia of this Commonwealth, held in readiness to march at a moments warning. In conformity to the requisitions of the said Act, the Commander in Chief orders that the Detachment be immediately made from the Militia of this State; that the men be well armed and accoutered, that they be enrolled in companies as much together, & in the vicinity of each other, as possible; that the Infantry be formed into battalions and regiments; & that the whole be organized in proportion to their numbers, agreeably to the Militia Law of this Commonwealth. The appointment to the several Divisions, will be as follows, vis. 1. Division 1037 men, to form 3 battalions of foot, 1 company of cavalry, & 1 company of artillery. 1.Brigade to furnish 686 2.
