218. Head Quarters 2nd Regiment M. Vols Halls Hill Va. February 12, 1862

Sir

Your letter of February 8th came duly to hand, and in answer would say that the number of recruits needed is three hundred (300), and through my recommendation Capt Sergent has been detailed by the commanding General to recruit in Maine for this Reg't. I shall also have one other Captain detailed in a few days for the same purpose, and I hope you will aide them in the business --

At present their is no vacancies for commissioned officers, should their be I will give you immediate notice.--

Very Respectfully Yo: Abt: Servt:

Cha's W. Roberts Col'n Commanding By Sanger

To Hon. J. Washburn Governor of Maine
