Wednesday January 28th 1835

Met according to adjournment.

On motion of Mr Phelps of Fairfield Ordered, That the Committee on the Militia be instructed to enquire into the expediency of so amending the Law, that no officer of the Militia of this State shall receive any pay from the State, unless the Adjutant General or some other officer who may be designated for that purpose - shall certify that such officer claiming to be paid, has faithfully performed his duty as required by Law - Sent up for concurrence.

Bill - an act relative to the safe keeping of persons insane, lunatic or furiously mad, was read a third time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.

An order came from the Senate instructing the Committee on the Militia to inquire if it be expedient to make any, & if any, what alteration in the law regulating the appointment of Engine men & prescribing their duty - and the House concurred.

The order moved by Mr Holmes of Alfred on the 26th inst instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of revising an act to encourage the destruction of Crows &c passed in this House, came back from the Senate nonconcurred, & the House recede and concur.

Bill - authorizing the erection of a wharf at Eastport in tide waters, reported on the petition of John Clark, was read a 1st & 2nd time, and tomorrow at 10 o'clock assigned for a 3rd reading.
