Afternoon. Same day. Have been to ride with Mrs. McKee down to Mr. Nathan Morill's. Mrs. Arrowsmith + her mother, + the children, have appointed a week from today to start for N. York. we will miss the children very much. The [underlined] Sewing [underlined] Circle [underlined] meets this afternoon. I believe I have mention, that Dana Bradbury has commenced the practice of medicine in the village. He bought Dr. Coolidge's horse, surgical instruments, etc. etc. And will try to step into his circle of practice as much as he can. he is a good young man + if he has his health, I think he will succeed well here. The Engineers are driving down their line of stakes, on their entrance into my field. I wish there was any just way of keeping them out.

Ev'g. I have been to see "Old [underlined] Uncle [underlined] Arthur". He says he shall start for Boston in [underlined] a [underlined] week [underlined] from [underlined] next [underlined] Monday [underlined], to buy goods + that he shall bring you [underlined] home [underlined] with [underlined] him [underlined]. I heard him telling his customers [underlined] so this evening. He really needs some body to help him, + if he don't have, he had better shut up the store. You will do as you please - but I guess [underlined] you will take hold, + help right [underlined] up Uncle Artie, this [underlined] winter [underlined], if no longer. And you will feel better, more like somebody, than to live idle -- But judge for yourself. Truly yours, Z. Long.
