[Penciled at top of page:] 2 Goodwin

Alfred, Maine; March 14, 1821.

To the Hon.ble William King, Governor of the State of Maine, Portland.

Dear Sir

It is perceived by a recent Act of the Legislature, that all Ministers of the Gospel, to be qualified to solemnize marriages after the 1.st May next, shall be commissioned for that purpose by the Governor. Therefore, I would respectfully recommend to your notice, as worthy of being commissioned, the Rev.d Nathan Douglas, the pastor of the congregational church in this town, and Elder Henry Smith of this town, as the Baptist minister of the church in Waterborough; both of whom are ordained, and in regular & good standing.

With sentiments of Respect, I am, Dear Sir, your most obedient, and humble servant,

Jeremiah Goodwin, Register of Deeds for York County.
