I have been a warm and firm friend of the National Government in all times; and have without any deviation supported the Republic cause in the Commonwealth of Massachusett [sic]. My exertions in the cause of separation have been as great as my circumstances would allow, for which and other enquiries I would beg leave to refer you to Alfred Johnson Jr Esqr. the Representative from this Town.

The registry of Probate is vacant as I understand by the election of William Abbott Esqr. of Castine to be a Representative in the Legislature, this office would be agreeable to me. If however some other person should be found more suitable for this situation, and some other place should be assigned me I should be greatful [sic] for the obligation - what will best aid me in supporting and educating a numerous family would be most servicable to me.
