I have lately been to Eastport Robbinston & Lubec I did not learn that any disatisfaction [sic] or alarm was excited by not reappointing Genl. Cooper as Sheriff of this County, - appeared to be satisfied with Doctr Balch for Sheriff & for Mr. Dickenson for Judge of Probate. -

I recd. your much esteemed favour [of the]18th ult. and [one struck through] saying that the subject matter Contained in my letter to you would be attended to when the Councill [sic] met & your permission for me to Communicate freely to you - for which assurance permit me to return you my Sincere Thanks. - in the Nomination of men for appointments in the District which I Represent I selected those to whom I could place Confidence in [one struck through] to discharge the Duties of the office, & by the recommendation of my Friends & the friends of those who
