A Penobscot man then came & planted his stick near by. They walked round their poles singing war songs. Then they retreated to their own sides & the battle fronts advanced with arrow shot.

Desperate fighting for two hours. Young chief wounded in leg with an arrow. Ran back & Penobscots retreated Old chief beat his son with his belt sinew, but seeing the arrow pulled it out. Young man renewed the fight His bow string broke but his father handed him his own. Penobscots won after that & killed all Mohawks but one. Him they took down to Oldtown where torn apart - then cut off ears & nose to send back [one underlined] his nose with a message to the Mohawk chief.
