[Penciled at top of page:] 2 Carr

Hallowell Nov 14 1820

Sir

As you have seen cause to place Col. Lithgow on the nomination list, and as he has been withdrawn without any objection to him. I apprehend that an attempt is making to alter the nomination which would prove highly injurious to him.

Had I time before the sitting of the council I venture to say that I should procure many more signatures than will be presented by Mr. Emmons, the republicans will now be prevented from counter acting, the recent, and secret, management, which the federalist[s] have resorted to, to effect their favorite object in holding the offices in their own hands

I hope Governor you will support Col Lithgow as the council are all in his favor and you will oblige many of your old friends, and offend none of your new ones

Yours respectfully

Saml Carr.

Governor King
