[Message from the House.]

Mr. McCobb came with a message to inform the Senate that the House had been duly organized by the choice of Benjamin Ames Esq for Speaker, and James L. Child for Clerk. -

On motion of Mr. Tallman, ordered that the rules & orders of this board, in force in 1822, be considered as the rules & orders till others are formed & accepted. -

Mr. Tallman then moved to raise a committee to frame a new code of rules & orders for the government of this board, the ensuing year. - And Messrs Tallman, Dennett & Wilson were appointed. -

The Secretary of State came in & laid on the table the returns of votes by the several towns & plantations in this State for Senators. -

On motion of Mr. Bond, Ordered that Messrs Bond, Case & O'Brien be a committee to receive & examine the returns of votes given in the several towns & plantations in this State for Senators, and to report who appear to be elected, what vacancies exist, and who are the constitutional candidates to fill the same. -

[Secretary authorized to appoint an assistant]

On motion of Mr. Bond, Ordered that the Secretary of the Senate be authorised to appoint an assistant to aid him in the performance of the duties of his office.
