Governor of the State of Maine

Whereas, His Excellency John Brooks, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, hath represented that Isaac Torrey, otherwise called Ignatius J. Torrey, otherwise called Isaac J. Torrey, late of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and Commonwealth aforesaid, charged with the commission of Forgery and Fraud, is a fugitive from justice, having fled to the State of Maine, and being now therein:

And whereas, copies of two indictments, found against the said Torrey, by the Jurors for the said Commonwealth, and certified as authentic, by the Governor thereof, have been produced, charging him the said Torrey with the crimes aforesaid: And the said John Brooks, Governor as aforesaid, having, agreeably to the Constitution and a law of the United States, demanded that the said Torrey, being a fugitive from justice, as aforesaid, and being now confined in the gaol at Machias, in our County of Washington, be delivered to Thomas Rogers, appointed by the Governor of said Commonwealth, Agent to receive the said fugitive, that he may be transported to that Commonwealth and dealt with according to law:

Now, therefore, I, Albion K. Parris, Governor of the said State of Maine, by virtue of the Constitution of the United States and a law of the same, as well as a law of this State, do require and command all and every of the officers of this State, in whose custody the said Torrey may be, and especially the Sheriff of our County of Washington, to deliver him the said Torrey, being a fugitive from justice, as aforesaid, to Thomas Rogers, Agent, as aforesaid, for this purpose specially appointed.

And the said Thomas Rogers is hereby authorized to transport the said Torrey to the line of the State of Maine, on the way to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, at the proper expense and charge of the said Agent. And all civil officers within this State, are hereby commanded to afford the said Thomas Rogers, all needful assistance
