State of Maine.

To all persons to whom these Presents shall come,

Greeting:

Whereas, before the Justices of our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and held at Augusta, within and for our County of Kennebec, on the third tuesday of September, being the seventeenth day of said month, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty two, Joseph Davis, a resident of Augusta, in our said County of Kennebec, was convicted of the crime of lewd and lascivious cohabitation, with one Lydia Jones; And thereupon, by our said Court, was sentenced to be punished by solitary imprisonment for the term of two months; and afterwards by confinement to hard labor for the term of one year, in and within the State’s Gaol, in our said County of Kennebec ; and he the said Joseph Davis has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:

Now, Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said Joseph Davis, that part of the punishment aforesaid which remains to be executed; and grant to him the said Joseph Davis, a full and free Pardon of the Crime aforesaid; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates and officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Albion K. Parris, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the twenty ninth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three; and in the forty seventh year of the Independence of the United States of America.
