To Leonard Jarvis, Esquire, Sheriff of our County of Hancock,
Greeting:

Whereas Seth Elliot, late resident of Knox, in our said County of Hancock, Esquire, at the term of our Supreme Judicial Court, which commenced at Castine, within and for our said County of Hancock, on the fourth Tuesday of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, was convicted of the crime of Wilful Murder; and, by our said Court was sentenced to suffer the pains and penalty of Death; Whereupon our Warrant issued on the twenty second day of November, in the present year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, Commanding you, our said Sheriff to execute the Sentence aforesaid, upon him the said Seth Elliot, on Thursday, the thirtieth day of December, now current, and Whereas, he the aforesaid Seth Elliot, has supplicated Us for mercy, and it being our pleasure to extend to him our Clemency:
WE, of our special grace and favor, do hereby direct and Command you to suspend and delay the execution of the sentence aforesaid, until Thursday the third day of February next; and require that you, on that day, between the hours of eleven of the Clock in the forenoon, and two of the Clock in the afternoon, of the same day, at some suitable place therefor, in the town of Castine, within our said County of Hancock, execute the sentence aforesaid, of our said Court, on him the said Seth Elliot, by causing him to be hanged by the neck until he be dead; for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant: Hereof fail not at your peril; and make due return of this writ, with your doings, into our Secretary of State’s Office, within twenty days after you shall have executed the same. Witness Albion K. Parris, Esquire, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal, hereunto affixed, at Portland, this twenty fifth day of December, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred & twenty four; and in the forty ninth year of the Independence of the United States of America.

Hancock ss. Castine, thursday, February 3rd 1825. In persuance of this Warrant, at a suitable place in the town of Castine, on this third day of February 1825, between the hours of eleven of the Clock in the forenoon and two of the clock in the afternoon, I caused the within named Seth Elliot to be hanged by the neck until he was dead, in execution of the sentence of the Supreme Judicial Court of this State.
