State of Maine.

To all persons to whom these Presents shall come,

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Alfred, within and for our County of York, on the third Tuesday of September, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three, Nathaniel Cole, of Kittery in our said County of York, was convicted of the Crime of open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior; and thereupon by our said Court, was sentenced to thirty days solitary imprisonment; and afterwards to be confined to hard labor for the term of two years, in Alfred Gaol; and he the said Nathaniel Cote, has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:

Now, Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said Nathaniel Cole, that part of the punishment aforesaid which yet remains to be executed in solitary imprisonment; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Albion K. Parris, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the seventeenth day of June, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty five; and in the forty ninth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
