State of Maine.

To all persons to whom these presents shall come,

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Portland, within and for the County of Cumberland, on the first tuesday of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six; Zachariah L. Winship, of Otisfield, in our said County of Cumberland, Yeoman, was convicted of the Crime of Adultery, and thereupon by our said Court was sentenced to be punished by solitary imprisonment for the term of ten days, and by confinement afterwards to hard labor for the term of two years in our State Prison at Thomaston in our County of Lincoln; a part of which sentence yet remains to be executed, and he the said Zachariah L. Winship has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:

Now Know Ye, That upon full consideration of the premises; We do hereby remit to him the said Zachariah L. Winship, that part of the punishment aforesaid which yet remains to be executed; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates, and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal, hereunto affixed at Portland, the twenty ninth day of January, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight and in the fifty second year of the Independence of the United States of America.
