Greeting
Whereas before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Wiscasset, within and for our County of Lincoln, on the fourth Tuesday of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine William Williams, of Edgecomb, in our said County of Lincoln, yeoman, was convicted of the Crime of Assault and Battery, and thereupon by our said Court was sentenced to be punished by imprisonment in the County Gaol for the term of eight months, and to pay costs of prosecution, a part of which sentence yet remains to be executed; and he the said William Williams, has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:
Now Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said William Williams, that part of the punishment aforesaid which yet remains to be executed upon him by imprisonment, of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates, and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.
Witness, Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our council, and our seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the twenty fourth day of June, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine; and in the fifty third year of the Independence of the United States of America.
