To all who shall see these Presents,

Greeting:

Know ye, That William King, our Governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, ability and discretion of Jonathon D. Weston, of Eastport, in the County of Washington, Esquire, hath nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of our Council, appointed the said Jonathan D. Weston, Agent for the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Indians, under an Act of our Legislature, passed March the fifth, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one.

We therefore do hereby authorize and empower him to fulfil [fulfill] the duties of that office according to law; and to have and to hold the same, together with all the powers, privileges and emoluments thereto of right appertaining, unto him the said Jonathan D. Weston, during the pleasure of our Governor and Council, for the time being.

In Testimony whereof, We have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and our Seal to be hereunto affixed: Witness our governor at the Council Chamber, in Portland, the tenth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, and of the Independence of the United States the forty fifth.

Weston, Esq. and took & subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution of this State and a law of the United States to qualify him to execute the duties of Agent for the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Indians, under an Act of our Legislature passed March 5th, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, to which Office he has been Appointed.
