To his Excellency Gov Washburn

We the undersigned Commissioned Officers of Corr [large space, word erased?] Regt [?] [?] volunteers would respectfully that Alonso H. Merick of Sedgewick (now of Com B, 2nd Regt Maine Volunteers) be appointed Drill Officer for this Com. Mr Merick was the first man to enlist from Sedgwick in the spring of 1861 and has served faithfully ever since. he has participated in many of the battles in Virginia, was slightly wounded in the battle of Bull's Run[underlined], and severely wounded in the left arm in one of the recent battles under Pope and is now rapidly recovering in one of the Hospitals near Washington.

He is a young man of excellent education, and unexceptionable moral character. he left a lucrative business to enter the army, and with a determination that cannot be overcome he declares he will fight until the rebellion is quelled. We are fully persuaded that a better
