the election of Senators and Counsellors, and neither of them stated that the votes were received, sorted and counted and declared in open town meeting by the Selectmen who presided; and in presence of the town clerk who formed a list of the persons voted for and made a return thereof &c but the return from Alna merely stated that the votes were given in, sorted, counted and recorded and declaration thereof made, as by law is directed: and the return from Hope merely stated that the votes were given in, sorted, counted and record & declaration thereof made, as by the constitution is directed.
The votes of the town of Dennysville in the county of Washington were rejected because the return was not attested by the Town clerk and because it was otherwise insufficient, being in substance similar to the returns from Alna and Hope.

In Senate Jan. 3. 1822 Read and accepted and sent down
[Proposition for convention] On motion by Mr. McDonald, ordered that a message be sent to the House of Representatives to propose a convention of both houses in the Representatives chamber this afternoon at three o'clock for the purpose of filling the vacancies in the Senate, in manner prescribed by the Constitution.
A message was received from the House of Representatives that they concurred in the proposition of the Senate for a convention of both branches of the Legislature this afternoon.
Ordered that when the Senate adjourn, it be to half past two o'clock in the afternoon.

Thursday afternoon –
[Convention to fill vacancies in the Senate] Agreeably to assignment the two branches of the Legislature met in convention at the Representatives' chamber at 3 o'clock for the purpose of filling vacancies existing in the Senate.
