President of the Senate. On motion by Mr. Ripley.

[Jan. 4] Ordered that the thanks of this Board be presented to the Hon. George Bradbury for the dignified and impartial discharge of his duty while officiating as President pro tempore of the Senate.

Adjourned to three o'clock afternoon

Friday afternoon Jan. 4.

[Committee to inform Gov. that both Houses were organized.] On motion by Mr. Bond Ordered, that Messrs. Bond and Seaver, with such as the House may join be a committee to wait upon the Governor and inform him that the two branches of the Legislature are proceeding on public business; and are ready to receive any communication he may be pleased to make to them. Sent down for concurrence. Came up concurred, and Messrs. Moody, Trafton and Means were joined.

[Mr. Buxton Senator from Cumberland qualified] Mr. Buxton the member elected to fill the vacancy in Cumberland county, appeared and was attended by Mr. Pierce to the Governor and council, and having there taken and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to take a seat at the Senate Board, took his place accordingly.

[Message respecting time of choosing Sec. & Treasurer.] "Mr. President, "The House of Representatives have reconsidered their vote concurring with the proposition of the Senate so far as to non concur with that part which relates to the choice of the Secretary of State and Treasurer which was to have taken place tomorrow, and that the choice of those officers be deferred until another time shall be agreed upon.

A message was then sent by the Secretary to the House that the Senate recede from their proposition respecting the Convention of both branches of the Legislature tomorrow morning so far as respects the choice of Treasurer and Secretary of State and
