Afternoon; The Board came to order pursuant to adjournment:
Order of the House of Representatives that the Committee on the Judiciary, be instructed to inquire what alterations, if any are necessary in a Law of this State entitled "An Act ascertaining what shall constitute the legal settlement; and providing for the relief and support, employment and removal of the poor, with leave to report by Bill or otherwise, was read and passed in concurrence.
On motion by Mr. Churchill, Ordered that Messrs Churchill and Pond with such as the House may join be a Committee to inquire into the expediency of enlarging the jurisdiction of the Municipal Court for the Town of Portland, so that it may have cognizance in cases of forcible entry and detainer, and in cases where penalties may accrue to said town; and also to prevent suits from being brought before Justices of the Peace where both parties are Inhabitants of said Portland; and to consider that other additional powers may be given to said Court with leave for concurrence. Came up concurred, and Messrs Longfellow, Mitchell and Evans, were joined.
