Bill to set off a tract of land from Vienna to Mount Vernon was read twice and tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.

Bill to divide the town of Machias and incorporate the towns of West Machias, East Machias & Machias Port, was read a third time & passed to be engrossed as amended at A in section seventh. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that Messrs Longfellow of Portland, Chandler of Calais and Mowry of Lubec be a committee to enquire into the condition of the Passamaquoddy Indians; the manner in which the money appropriated for their improvement has been expended; the progress which has been made in the School established for their instruction; and the expediency of making further appropriations for the benefit and instruction of that tribe – read and passed.

Bill to prevent Intemperance at Elections, was recommitted to the committee who reported the Bill.

Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to consider the expediency of providing by Law for a further allowance to Jurors for their daily attendance at the several Courts of this State in civil and criminal cases – read & passed.

The committee on engrossed bills reported as duly engrossed Bill – to divide the South Parish and to establish the East Parish in Augusta, & it was passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.

A communication was received from John Balkam Esqr Counsellor elect, signifying his acceptance.
