A communication was received from the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court of their opinion upon the two questions submitted to them by the order of this House of the 11th instant, which was read from the Chair, and referred to the committee on contested elections.

A message was received from the Governor dated 24th January 1826 communicating a copy of the division & assignment recently made of a portion of the State Lands owned in common with Massachusetts (see appendix page 274.) which was read and referred in concurrence with the Senate, to the committee on State Lands.

A message was received from the Governor dated Jany 24th 1826 communicating copies of Resolutions of the General Assembly of the States of Tennessee – of New Jersey and of Connecticut (see Appendix page 274) which, with the accompanying documents were read – and ordered to lie on the table.

Ordered that the Hon. William P. Preble be requested to give to this House his reasons for dissenting in opinion from the decision of the other Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court of this State on the questions submitted to them on the eleventh instant respecting the corporate rights of towns in the election of Representatives – read and passed.

Mr Boutelle moved a reconsideration of the last vote and tomorrow at 10' oclock was assigned to take up the subject.

An order came from the Senate directing the committee on Literature and Literary institutions to enquire into the expediency of amending the act incorporating the Trustees of the Cony Female Academy for concurrence – and the House concurred.
