A special message was received from the Governor dated February 2d 1826 communicating to the Legislature information that a vacancy exists in the 4th Division in the office of Major General [see appendix page 275.]

The House assigned tomorrow at 10 oclock to come to the choice on their part of a Major General for the 4th Division.

Bill – dividing the town of Baldwin & incorporating the town of Sebago – was read once & referred to Messrs Chase of Livermore, Higgins of Cape Elizabeth & Witham of Danvers

Bill to incorporate the Journeyman Cordwainers Society was read a third time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.

Petition of Elijah Butler for a pension, was read & referred to the committee on applications from sick & wounded Soldiers Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Ambrose Freeze & als of Hartland for a law defining the lines of said town, was read and referred to the committee on the incorporation of towns. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill for the relief of School Districts in Norridgewock and Mercer was read a third time and passed to be engrossed with amendments. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Philip Ulmer & als for a revision of the laws relating to the inspection of lime and lime casks, was read & referred to Messrs Hodgman of Warren, Gilchrist of Cushing & Little of Bucksport.

Bill to prevent mischief by setting and carelessly managing of fires was called up, and the new draft reported by the committee adopted – and then on motion of Mr Sampson
