Head Quarters 2nd Rgt Me Vol Camp Seward Washington June 28th 1861

Hon I. Washburn Jr

Dear Sir

Your favors of the 20th inst were received last evening and their contents noted.

In relation to Mr Jacksons letter which you enclose, I can only say as I have heretofore said in my letters to you – that my regiment has had everything done for it that was in the power of the Officers to do. The soldiers have always had the regular Army rations & of a good quality with very few exceptions which cases have been remedied as soon as it was possible to have it done.

All the regiments in & about Washington, are treated in the same manner in regard to rations. There are no exceptions made, no regiment has had any better treatment than this. They have all that the law allowed them. I shrunk from no investigation either as to the general management of the Camp or to the estimation in which the regiment is held by the Commander of this district (Gen.Mansfield)
