Gov. I. Washburn Jr.

Dear Sir

Lieut James Dean of the 2nd Maine and myself went to Lowell yesterday to see Col. Porter. His son Thomas has been Recruiting a squad of men he has now about 30 men enlisted. we want to make arrangments to have him come into our Company and go into the 2nd Maine. Col. Porter said that his son wanted a Lieut Commission. The young man says that he expects orders soon and shall go where you order him. I would like to have him go in with us and take the 2nd Lieutenancy and I think that I can arrange with Sherwood to give him the orderly and he satisfactory all around. What men I saw seamed to be pleased to go in with us. Col. Roberts is very anxious to have us fill up and join the Regiment as soon as possible and I am getting tired of recruiting having been engaged with the two Companies since the 1st October and would like to have a chance at the Rebels as soon as possible. hoping to hear a favorable answer

I remain Most respectfully Dan'l White
