Mr Meqquier moved to commit the Preamble and order aforesaid to a Select Committee of the Senate, and the question, on motion by Mr Ingalls, being ordered to be taken by yeas and nays, was decided in the negative, as follows:

[Message from House proposing convention to elect councillors]

A message was delivered from the House of Representatives by James L. Child their Clerk, proposing a Convention of both Houses of the Legislature in the Representatives Chamber, at eleven o'clock tomorrow morning, for the purpose of electing Seven Councillors to advise the Governor, in the Executive Department of the Government, and a Secretary and Treasurer of State, for the current political year; and requesting the concurrence of the Senate.
