Thursday January 6, 1831 Met according to adjournment The Committee to whom was referred the order of yesterday directing them to agree with some suitable person to perform the duty of an assistant Clerk &c reported that they had agreed with Asaph R. Nichols of Augusta to perform said duties for the sum of two dollars per day - and the report was read & accepted & Mr Nichols entered upon the discharge of the duties accordingly

On motion of Mr Hamlin of Columbia Ordered that a Committee be appointed to procure a copy of the census last taken by order of Congress so far as it concerns this State - & Messrs. Hamlin of Columbia, McCrate of Nobleboro' and Watts of St. George were appointed that Committee

The Committee appointed to contract with some suitable person to perform the services of Doorkeeper & Page report - that they have contracted with Maj. Thomas Baker to perform those services by himself, page & one other person for four dollars per day - read & accepted

On motion of Mr Deane of Ellsworth Ordered that a Committee be appointed with such as the Senate may join to consider & ascertain the best mode of raising a valuation Committee and to report therein & Messrs. Deane of Ellsworth, Harris of Portland, Williams of Augusta, Trafton of Camden, Parks of Bangor, Coburn of Bloomfield, Smith of Boothbay, Snow of Livermore, Bradbury of Hollis & Talbot of Machias were appointed that Committee

On motion of Mr Mitchell of Portland Ordered that a Committee be appointed with such as the Senate may join to employ some suitable person to draft Bills & Resolves during the present session. & Messrs. Mitchell of Portland, Tibbetts of Lisbon & Bodwell of Shapleigh were appointed that Committee - read & passed - sent up for concurrence
