Petition of Selectmen of Kennebunk Port for relief from undue proportion of State tax Petition of Selectmen of Cape Elizabeth for relief in relation to their State tax were severally read & referred to the Committee on Finance

On motion of Mr. Williams of Augusta Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the appointment of one or more commissioners in each of the States of Massachusetts & Newhampshire to take depositions to be used in the trial of civil actions in this state - sent up for concurrence.

On motion Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire as to the expediency of amending the law respecting the duties of surveyors of highways so as to give them power to sell at auction so much of logs timber & other obstructions as are unnecessarily left in any highway when the owner is not known as shall be sufficient to pay the expense of removing the same - sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Williams of Augusta - Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of amending the law relative to impounding beasts with leave to report by bill or otherwise - sent up for concurrence

A message was received from the Senate announcing that they had appointed Messrs. Ingalls & Eastman as two additional members of the joint standing Committee on Apportionment of Representatives &c.
