An order came from the Senate - that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the (expediency of) situation of the tax on the town of Westbrook for the year 1827 with power to send for persons & papers & report their opinion thereon - for concurrence &, the House concurred -

On motion of Mr. Hobbs of Waterboro' Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the law respecting the education of youth that every town or plantation in this State may if they choose have the same privilege at their annual town meetings in March or April of choosing school committees in the several school districts as is granted to the town of Bath - sent up for concurrence

On motion of Mr. Hamlin of Columbia Ordered that the Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court be required to give to this House according to the provisions of the Constitution in this behalf their opinions on the following questions to wit

Question 1st Whether under the first section of the second article of the Constitution a male citizen of the United States of the age of twenty one years & upwards excepting paupers and Indians not taxed having his residence established in this State three months next preceding any election can be an elector for Governor, Senators & Representatives in the town or plantation where his residence has been established for a less time than three months next preceding any election?

Question 2d. - Whether under the same section & articles where it provides that the election shall be by written ballot does a printed ballot came within the meaning of the word written as here used?
