Agreeably to assignment the Senate proceeded to ballot for the choice of a Major General of the second Division of the Militia, Messrs. Balkam, Emery, and Kavanagh were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes and having attended to that duty, reported the whole number of votes given was 17 Necessary to constitute an election 9 Col. Joseph Chandler has 11 Gen. Samuel G. Ladd " 5 Robert C. Vose Esq 1 Joseph Chandler was then declared elected on the part of the Senate and a message was sent to the House informing them thereof. [Major General of 2nd Division chosen]

On motion by Mr. Miller a message was sent to the House requesting that branch of the Legislature to send up Resolve respecting Sheriffs - request granted. [Message Resolve respecting Sheriffs]

Bill additional to an Act entitled an Additional Act to secure to owners their property in Logs, Masts, Spars or other timber in certain cases was taken up amended and passage refused. Sent down for concurrence. [secure to owners Logs masts &c]

Bill regulating fisheries at the mouth of the Kennebec River [Bill - fishery Ken R.] and Resolve in favor of John G. Deane were severally read a second time and passed to be engrossed in concurrence. [Resolve J. G. Deane]

Mr. Sweat from the Committee on Turnpikes &c on petition of Seth Spring praying aid to keep in repair free bridges reported Resolve in favor of Seth Spring and the same was read once and tomorrow at 10 o clock assigned for a second reading. [pet. of Seth Spring] Resolve in favor of Seth Spring

and leave to withdraw on the petition of Richard H. Bartlett and [Pet. of R. H. Bartlett]
