Counsellors elect, came in & took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify them to enter upon the discharge of the duties of their office.

A communication was received from Joel Miller, Warden of the States Prison transmitting the Accounts of that Institution from 1st day of September to the 30th day of November last - which was referred in concurrence with the Senate to the Committee on the State Prison &c.

A communication was received from the Secretary of State transmitting in obedience to the order of the House of this morning, such returns of the Trustees of the several Literary Institutions in this State, as have been received at his Office &c - which with the accompanying papers was referred to the Committee on Literature & Literary Institutions. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Shapleigh of Berwick Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of altering the Law respecting Parishes &c - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of the Directors of the Maine Stage Company for authority to hold a larger amount of property than their act of incorporation allows - was read & referred to the committee on the Judiciary. Sent up for concurrence.

Mr Emerson of York was appointed on the Committee on the Judiciary instead of Mr Holmes of Alfred who has resigned his seat as a member of the House.

Petition of Joshua Hathaway to be remunerated for assistance rendered Elijah Parker, not an inhabitant of any town &c was read & referred to the Committee on Claims. Sent up for concurrence.
