[Resolve fixing the pay of Commiss. Public Buildings refused passage] Resolve fixing the compensation of the Commissioner of public buildings was taken up and the Senate having reconsidered their former vote amending the same, refused it a final passage a message was sent communicating this refusal to the House.

[Choice of Comr. to examine State Prison] Agreeably to assignment, the Senate proceeded to ballot for the choice of a Commissioner to examine the affairs of the State Prison. Messrs. Parsons, French and Usher were appointed a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes and having attended to the duty assigned them reported that the whole number of votes given was 17 Necessary to constitute an election 9 William Allen Jun of Norridgewock had 10 William Clark of Hallowell 4 Nathaniel Coffin of Wiscasset 2 James C. Churchill of Portland 1

William Allen Jun was then declared elected and a Message sent informing the House of Representatives thereof.

[Pet: A. Dennison & als referred to next Legislature] Report of the Committee on the Judiciary granting a reference to the next Legislature on the petition of Andrew Dennison & others was accepted in concurrence with the House.

On motion by Mr. Cushman Ordered that when the Senate adjourn, they adjourn to meet again this afternoon at three o'clock. Adjourned.

Afternoon, [Resolve in favor of Tomah Loui; postponed] Resolve in favor of Tomah Loui came up in a new draft which the Senate refuse to adopt and adhere to their former vote postponing indefinitely the original Resolve.

Report of the Committee on that part of the Governor's Speech relating to the Massachusetts claim came from the House accepted for concurrence and the Senate concurred.
