Mr Smith of Noble moved to amend the first of duly returned members by adding thereto the name of Andrew Roberts Esqr of Waterboro'

A discussion took place on this motion, which was interrupted by a motion from Mr Boutelle, that a message be sent to the officiating Governor informing him that a quorum were assembled and requesting his attendance at the Representative Chamber to qualify the Representatives elect, to enter upon the discharge of their official duties - Mr Boutelle was charged with the message.

Accordingly the officiating Governor, attended by the Council, & Secretary of State, preceeded by Joseph M Gerrish Esquire a Coroner for the County of Cumberland, came in when the members elect, took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify them to enter upon the discharge of their Official duties - The Governor & those who attended him then withdrew -

The Secretary of State, came in & informed the House, that he had, pursuant to the requirements of the Constitution, laid before the Senators the returns of votes for Governor given in, in the several towns and plantations within this State & returned to his office, for the examination of the two branches of the Legislature.

The House resumed the consideration of the motion made by Mr Smith, to amend the list reported by the committee
